As you may have heard:
Texas Governor Rick Perry is the “Initiator” of a prayer event entitled “The Response: A Call To Prayer For A Nation in Crisis” to be held at Reliant Stadium, home of the Houston Texans, on August 6th. The event is drawing nationwide criticism, in part because the event is being organized by the American Family Association, which advocates against gay rights.
More than 300 Texans have joined a Facebook group pledging to hold a peaceful demonstration outside Reliant Stadium during Gov. Rick Perry’s prayer rally in August. There are atheists who oppose the concept of the event—prayer as a response to the nation’s problems; there are Christians who are uncomfortable with the way Perry has incorporated his beliefs into politics; and there are citizens who are offended by his partnership with the American Family Association, a group that has targeted gays and non-Christians.
